Survey the symptoms and take action to head off a nasty infection.
Mastitis can progress quickly, sending you on a trip to the hospital.
If you are experiencing any of the following accompanied by a fever, headache, and body aches, contact your physician immediately.
- breast pain: with or without lumps
- stress
- lack of rest
- a delayed regular nursing or pumping time
- an abundant milk supply that seems to have dropped
Preventing Mastitis: Listen to Your body.
First, keep your normal routine as much as possible. If you regularly nurse at 11:30 a.m., then try to nurse or pump at 11:30 a.m. every day.
Make time to get rest if you are feeling stressed or overworked. Babyology recommends simple solutions like napping each day, reading a book, making a spa day, or going to get a manicure or pedicure—whatever is relaxing for you.
Moms are very good at giving to everyone and putting their needs last.
Imagine yourself as pitcher full of water filling glasses until you are empty. You have to go to the faucet and refill before you can give again. What is it that refills you? Make time to be refilled in your schedule regularly.
